A few home truths about building a home and all that surrounds it.

How to create a new home the whole family will love.

Creating a new home that suits the needs of the whole family, from hormonal teens to the more sophisticated heads of the household can sometimes be a seemingly unattainable concept.

How do a group of people, all at different life stages, each with varied sets of needs and wants, get along under the same roof?

Can it even be done?

Yes it can, says Burbank’s Managing Director Jarrod Sanfilippo, who urges that the key to creating a cohesive living space, is just that- space.

“Spaces to be together, spaces to be apart- spaces for everything, are crucial in maintaining a happy household for all ages,” says Jarrod.

Teenage daughters don’t exactly have the same needs as their balding fathers, and as such the home needs to be a place where everyone has their own pocket to do their own thing. In saying this, creating a warm and welcoming place for the family to bond is of paramount importance too.

“The open plan kitchen has increasingly become a favourite housing trend of the moment, as it’s the newly found hub of the home where the entire family congregates, be it to eat, study, chat or just relax.”

“No longer segregated from the rest of the home, the kitchen has become a focal point of the house, proving itself to be a place of bonding for the family, as well as one for entertaining - at the moment it seems to be one of the most integral parts of the home,” says Jarrod.

Whilst ensuring the kitchen is a spacious and functional area to gather, and the more space in your new home the better, it is also true that the neighbourhood you inhabit is crucial in enhancing a family’s experience of a home life.

“Ensuring you are building your new home or buying in an area that is suited to your needs, be those needs living a short proximity from educational facilities or sporting fields, close to transport facilities each contribute to the overall happiness the family will feel in the home- location certainly shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Key things to take away? A happy home needs space, a wonderful kitchen, and an equally wonderful community to create that magical atmosphere within your new home and family life.
