What made you decide to become an interior designer?
I have always had an admiration for design and styling. My father owned an iconic furniture shop on King William Road, Hyde Park in South Australia for many years so I grew up appreciating quality, ornate, period style furniture and decorative pieces. I initially had a career in Biomedical Sciences then discovered my true passion in Interior Design and ultimately knew this was an avenue I wanted to pursue.
What is your own personal favourite style?
My own personal style would have to be Classic / Contemporary as I still love some classic furniture pieces but I mix them up with modern accessories and other modern furniture pieces. My home is a mix of many styles consisting mainly of natural textures and muted colours as I find these create a relaxing and soothing space. Always accompanied by a beautifully scented candle or diffuser.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
I enjoy going to the gym, eating out or cooking for friends and family and watching interior design shows.
Do you have any interior design tips that may help people start from scratch?
First, determine what style and colours you like. I’d start with everyone’s favourite ‘go to’ which would be ‘Pinterest’. You can search via individual rooms and see what styles and colour palettes you are most attracted to and note how they make you feel. Once you have figured out your style you can also choose to follow certain designers or companies on Instagram. Once you’ve decided on what style you like, try to be decisive when making selections for your new home as this will prevent you from double guessing yourself afterwards.
Interior Designer,
What made you decide to become an interior designer?
It was a combination of my creative flair, my need constantly be doing something different and If I'm being completely honest, my lifelong love of playing The Sims! That early introduction to creating spaces evolved into a genuine passion for real design.
What is your own personal favourite style?
My personal style is quite eclectic, but I'd say it's a blend of Mid-Century Modern and Beton Brutalist. I love the balance of clean lines and timeless accents, with raw textures and materials.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Outside of work when not entertaining family and friends, I love baking, reading and dance. These creative and social outlets help me recharge and gain inspiration in their own unique ways.
Do you have any interior design tips that may help people start from scratch?
Don't be afraid to find inspiration in the most unexpected places. While Instagram and Pinterest are fantastic tools, you can source unique inspiration anywhere. From clothing, nature, your favourite TV show or even the patterns in your pets fur. Great design often starts with noticing what you're naturally drawn to.
